Unauthorised activity on Sycamore Street

We would like to reassure local residents that we are liaising with the owners of land off Sycamore Street in Blaby village following unauthorised activity over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The activity included removal of hedgerow, erection of gates, laying of hardcore and arrival of one static caravan and two touring caravans.
Officers have made numerous visits to the site and we are also working with the relevant agencies including the Police and Leicestershire County Council’s Multi Agency Traveller Unit on this matter.
We understand there have been some community concerns particularly as the area was the subject of a planning application previously which was refused in 2020 and subsequently dismissed on appeal in 2022.
We would like to reassure local people that we are monitoring the situation closely. The landowners have confirmed to us that no further works will be carried out and no further caravans will be sited.
We will also be liaising with them to ensure the regular removal of any waste.
While the land does belong to the occupants, the activity undertaken does not have planning permission.
They are seeking to address this and we expect a valid planning application to be submitted to us for determination.
We will continue to work with the landowners given our responsibility as a local planning authority and also seek to react to any residents’ concerns.
