Time is running out to vote
Time is running out to vote for those unsung heroes who make a huge difference to the lives of others in the District.
This year a bumper 15 nominations came in when the call went out to suggest which clubs or organisations deserved the crown, Community Group of the Year.
Now it is up to the public to decide which of the 15 will actually secure the title in the Blaby District Council Community Awards 2025 and voting closes on 14 December.
Winners and runners-up of the other categories, Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year and Sport and Physical Activity Volunteer of the Year will be determined by a panel of judges.
The 15 groups nominated for the Community Group of the Year are:
- 1st Sharnford Scout Group
- Alzheimer's Society’s Singing for the Brain Group (Blaby)
- Blaby and Glen Parva Community Service (Blaby Drop-in Centre)
- Blaby Mind Matters
- Commbus Project
- Countesthorpe Scouts
- Croft Happy Circle

Councillor Ben Taylor, Leader of Blaby District Council, said: "Our Community Awards seek to recognise and reward those people who go above and beyond to enrich the lives of those around them. Our 15 organisations, nominated for Community Group of the Year, are all deserving in their own special way but there can be only one winner. We need your help to crown that winner so please vote for your favourite."
Last year’s winners were Thistly Meadow Primary School Parent Teacher Association for fundraising efforts to enhance facilities for the benefit of both pupils and the community.
James Coles, a PTA member, said on receiving the award: "It’s nice to be recognised. Everything the people do in our local community, volunteering, helping, even giving five minutes of your time a week and doing what you can, and then to come to an awards ceremony and be recognised for all your hard work. It’s truly a great evening and recognition for all those out in the community.”"
