Outgoing Chair presents cheque
This week, outgoing Blaby District Council Chairman Roy Denney presented a cheque to his chosen charity, LOROS.
Councillor Denney met LOROS Ambassador Nicki Little at the Council Offices to receive the cheque for £3,300, which was the result of fundraising events and donations from the Chairman’s year in office.
Both were pictured in the Council Chamber on Tuesday to mark the end of Cllr Denney’s civic year and celebrate a successful period of fundraising.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “We were delighted to meet the Chairman and staff at Blaby District Council. We are so grateful for your incredibly kind donation, it is truly appreciated.”
The role of Chairman of Blaby District Council is held by a councillor for one year and appointed by the Council at its annual meeting in May. For 2025/26, the Chairman was Councillor Roy Denney (term of office 21 May 2025 to 12 May 2026). During the civic year, the Chairman attends community events across the District to help build and maintain links with local people and organisations. These events also help to support the Chairman’s chosen charity, which for the year is LOROS.
Cllr Denney said: “I am proud to support LOROS and I wish them well as they continue to deliver valuable care and support to terminally ill patients and their families.”
Events that raised funds this year included a Christmas carol concert, Everards Brewery tour and lunch and a Charity "Fun" Raiser and quiz night. Monies were also donated from the World Cancer Day event that was held at the Council Offices and donations were gratefully received from a local organisations and residents.
The Civic Chairperson for 2026/2027 is Cllr Janet Forey, whose chosen charity is Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
