New purpose-built medical centre approved for Enderby
A new medical centre has been approved for Enderby to replace the village’s current GP surgery.
The larger, purpose-built facility will be on the site of the former playing fields of Danemill Primary School which forms part of the Adult Education Centre. Blaby District Council’s Planning Committee last night (3 September) approved the application to transform part of the grounds of the centre on Townsend Road into a modern health facility.
Applicant, One Medical Property applied to the Council to change the use of the former playing fields to build a health centre and pharmacy. The application also sought to create new access from George Street, 36 car parking spaces and introduce cycle storage. The facility is intended to replace the existing Enderby Medical Centre.
The new centre will boast 13 consulting rooms, a dedicated car park and on-site pharmacy, far exceeding the capacity of the existing GP practice.
As part of the application, One Medical Property said: “This development is essential to ensure that Enderby has the healthcare capacity to match its residential growth.
“Without this new facility, the practice will be unable to safely absorb new residents, potentially resulting in closed patient lists and reduced access to care for the wider community.”
Once complete, the medical centre will move into the new state-of-the-art facility, providing greater access for patients across the two-storey building.
Councillor Lee Breckon, Chair of Blaby District Council’s Planning Committee, said: “The committee was unanimous in its support for this much-needed new medical facility. The new centre will greatly enhance the capacity and services available at the existing practice.
“We were pleased to see the applicants work with officers to ensure the scheme would meet future community needs, while respecting the surrounding character of the area.”
