BMX track works

Huncote Rear Field Aerial (1)

Blaby District Council is planning further works on land at the rear of Huncote Leisure Centre.

New monitoring and gas venting equipment were recently installed as part of the active management of the site, due to its former use as landfill and the presence of methane gas.

The fresh works will focus on the old BMX track. Within the next few days contractors will extend the fence perimeter to allow for heavy machinery to access the area.

This machinery will be used to carry out ground levelling works which are anticipated to take around two weeks, depending on conditions.

The rest of the field will still be open to the public, however, people are urged to remember the land remains uneven and is an actively managed former landfill site, therefore in no circumstances should BBQs or naked flames be used in the area.

Signage, warning of these hazards, is in place.

Once the work has finished, and it is safe to do so, the space will be reopened to the public.

Following this work, plans for the rewilding of the overall site will be progressed and may include various planting schemes, depending on suitability given the area’s previous use for landfill.

The Council is committed to the continued responsible management and monitoring of the site. Maintaining safety remains a key priority for future users of the space and the surrounding area.
