Do Councillors Get Paid?
Councillors at Blaby District Council are not paid a salary, but all councillors receive a basic allowance to recognise the time they spend carrying out council duties. The allowance is reviewed periodically and may increase in line with the national local government pay award.
Councillors who take on additional responsibilities—such as the Leader, Cabinet Members, committee chairs or Scrutiny Commissioners—may also receive a Special Responsibility Allowance.
Blaby District Council’s Members’ Allowances Scheme also provides for eligible travel and subsistence expenses and a dependants’ carers’ allowance for certain approved duties. Current allowance rates and details of payments made to councillors are published on the Council’s Councillor Allowances and Expenses webpage.
