About Blaby District
Many people know their own village, parish or neighbourhood well, but Blaby District is a much larger and more diverse area than people often realise.
Covering communities across south-west Leicestershire, the district is home to around 108,000 residents living in approximately 45,110 households. It includes a mix of rural villages, suburban communities and major employment and retail centres, each with their own distinct identity and local priorities.
The district encompasses 17 electoral wards and 24 parish and town councils, ranging from larger communities such as Braunstone Town, Glen Parva and Enderby to smaller villages including Kilby, Foston, Potters Marston and Thurlaston. This variety means that councillors represent communities with very different needs, opportunities and challenges.
Blaby District continues to evolve. Significant housing growth is taking place across the district, including at New Lubbesthorpe, while established communities continue to focus on issues such as protecting local services, improving facilities, supporting businesses and maintaining green spaces.
The area is also an important economic hub for the county, with strategic transport links and home to major employers.
The district is also home to Fosse Park, one of the largest out-of-town retail destinations in the country, attracting around 13.5 million visitors each year and making a significant contribution to the local economy.
