Private Housing and Empty Homes

We recognise and want to tackle the issue of empty homes and unfit private properties fairly and proactively. Our policies allow us to use a variety of techniques and strategies to help bring empty properties back into use, whether for sale, rent, or to be lived in by the current owner.

Property owners (including landlords) in the private sector may be able to access grants and loans to help them achieve the Decent Homes Standard.

We will provide support to property owners through advice, funding where possible, and other services such as tenant finding and support. In severe cases, we may be able to use legal action to bring homes back into use or implement improvements. You can find more information on the Empty Homes page of the website.
