Hairdresser and Barber Licences

Hairdressers and barbers are required to register themselves and their premises under section 23 of the Leicestershire Act 1985. Registration is required for both mobile hairdressers (personal registration only) and practitioners working from home.

Failure to register yourself and/or your premises could result in you being issued with a court awarded fine of up to £1000.

Applying

  • Download and read the application and safe practice guidance
  • Download, print and complete the Hairdressers and Barbers licence application form and return it to us for the attention of the Licensing Department

Send the form with the correct fees listed below:

  • Premises Registration - £110
  • Personal Registration - £65

Once you have submitted your application an officer will contact you and arrange to visit and inspect your premises. After the inspection, if your premises are found to be safe and compliant, you will be issued with a registration certificate which must be displayed at your premises. Applicants making a personal registration will also receive a registration certificate.
