Support for students

Post A Level, T Level and GCSE support

If you didn't achieve the A or T level results or GCSE results that you were hoping for then don't worry, there's lots of support out there for you to help you progress forward.

The two main avenues for support would be UCAS and the National Careers Service.

You can get help through UCAS with careers, Apprenticeships and University places. There's further information in the external links panel.

The National Careers Service can help with support and advice. See the external links panel for more information on your post-16 options.

We also have a dedicated officer here at Blaby District Council who will be able to support you with your future steps.

Young Persons Work and Skills Coordinator

If you are between 16 and 24 years of age then you can contact our Young Persons Work and Skills Coordinator who is available to help you with those first steps into employment, apprenticeship guidance, training and development opportunities and career support and guidance.

You can contact Lewis Austin by calling 07880 393338, or by emailing enterprisingblaby@blaby.gov.uk.

School Support

We run a variety of initiatives to support our secondary schools within the district; more information can be found below.

The Place Project:

A group-based Year 10 placement focused on tourism. Students collaborate to create a new visitor attraction, learning about urban planning, business development, and marketing from Council experts and external partners.

Changing the face of Construction:

Launched in March 2019, this initiative delivers targeted educational events for Year 8 girls. Featuring female industry ambassadors and CITB "Go Construct" activities, the program challenges gender stereotypes and highlights diverse career paths for young women in construction.

World of work visits:

These immersive workplace tours bridge the gap between the classroom and the professional world. Students explore local businesses and engage with professionals to gain a practical understanding of various industries and job roles to help broaden their career aspirations. We've worked in the past with Everard's Meadows, Vistry Group, Boden and more.

School Support Events:

Targeted CV workshops and mock interview sessions designed to enhance career readiness. These programs help students translate classroom skills like teamwork and problem-solving into professional language, building the confidence necessary for future employment.
