Scrutiny Working Groups

The scrutiny work programme provides a structured focus to support the Council’s drive for improvement, with most work channelled through themed working groups. If required separate working groups will be established to look at 'one-off' pieces of work.

Themed working groups:

Live - the remit of this Scrutiny Working Group is to evaluate strong, healthy, safe, sustainable communities and look at where the most vulnerable are supported.

Work – the remit of this Scrutiny Working Group is to look at thriving, prosperous, innovative local economy with a skilled and healthy workforce contributing to the local community. (including performance monitoring)

Visit - this Scrutiny Working Group’s remit is to assist the Council to meet its objective of continuous improvement. A strong leisure and tourism sector and well maintained and accessible attractions available in the local area encourage visitors to the district.

Working groups do not have to be politically proportionate and work on a task and finish basis. Any non-executive Member can be on a working group, not only members of the Scrutiny Commission.

Issues we will take forward include exploring ways to increase levels of coordinated and joint scrutiny with local partners on issues of local interest. The external challenge of partners and stakeholders and public involvement in scrutiny are actively encouraged.

Where a member of the public has particular experience of an issue or related skill, they may be invited as a co-opted member to contribute to a review to support its evidence gathering.
