Scrutiny Working Groups

The scrutiny work programme provides a structured focus to support the Council’s drive for improvement, with most work channelled through themed working groups. If required separate working groups will be established to look at 'one-off' pieces of work.

Themed working groups:

Finance Scrutiny Working Group - the remit of this group is to provide robust scrutiny on a broad range of financial and resource topics. Work undertaken will provide a proactive challenge that is intended to support the Cabinet in making the best financial decisions for the District.

Communities Scrutiny Working Group – the remit of this working group is to provide robust scrutiny of the Council’s services ensuring they are effective and focussed and improve the lives and environment for residents, families and communities.

Performance Scrutiny Working Group - the group’s remit is to assist the Council to meet its objective of continuous improvement. Work undertaken will follow the principles of System Thinking - looking at comparative performance and public perceptions on the delivery of Council services.

Working groups do not have to be politically proportionate and work on a task and finish basis. Any non-executive Member can be on a working group, not only members of the Scrutiny Commission.

Issues we will take forward include exploring ways to increase levels of coordinated and joint scrutiny with local partners on issues of local interest. The external challenge of partners and stakeholders and public involvement in scrutiny are actively encouraged.

Where a member of the public has particular experience of an issue or related skill, they may be invited as a co-opted member to contribute to a review to support its evidence gathering.
