Could you save money in our energy auction?

Blaby District Council is backing the latest Big Community Switch as the countdown begins for a new collective energy auction.

The Big Community Switch auction is aimed at helping households across Blaby District, the wider county and the rest of the UK, to see if they can save money on their energy bills by securing competitive tariffs with trusted energy suppliers.

It works on the principle that the more people who register an interest in switching the better the deal energy suppliers may offer – leading to cheaper tariffs and lower bills. It also helps households go green by switching to a 100% renewable energy tariff.

Since Blaby District Council joined the scheme some 587 households have taken advantage of a better deal in the switch, resulting in total realised savings on £97,277, with 444 tonnes of CO2 being saved.

The auction takes place at the end of June and is promoted through leading collective energy switching expert iChoosr, the auction will take place at the end of June with people able to register their interest here: Collective Energy Switch until 21 June.

Rising energy costs over the last 18 months have meant many residents in the District have struggled to cope with high bills. That's why the Council is committed to seeking better deals through Big Community Switch and iChoosr.

iChoosr understands that switching energy suppliers can be a daunting task with customers expressing concerns about market conditions and the lack of cheaper deals available. That's where iChoosr comes in – to help guide people through the switchover process.

Councillor Les Phillimore, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Community and Environmental Services said: "With the announcement of the new energy price cap and an expected fall in prices we believe now is the time for residents to take action and switch to a better, greener energy deal.

"Our energy auction through iChoosr is a great opportunity for customers to take control of their energy bills and secure a competitive tariff with a trusted supplier. So, whether you're frustrated with your current supplier or waiting for the market to calm down, the Big Community Switch is here to help."

About the auction

The amount of money that can be saved will vary depending on individual factors such as the current tariff, payment method, consumption and the winning bid. Savings, or where there are no savings, are clearly displayed in the personal offer that registrants receive. There is no guarantee that an offer will be the cheapest, but the model aims to ensure most participants are offered lower annual energy bills than they are currently paying or are available at the time of the offer. The same email address can be used to register up to five households – allowing people to do it on behalf of family and friends who do not have internet access.

About iChoosr

The auction will be facilitated by iChoosr, which aims to accelerate the energy transition by engaging customers. iChoosr is the leading collective switching expert operating in the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium, helping households switch to new energy suppliers. It organises domestic energy group buying schemes in the UK in collaboration with community leaders such as Councils.
