Report Dangerous Structure

Building Control is responsible for dealing with any structure, public or privately owned, that is judged to be in a dangerous condition. We operate an emergency service and Surveyors are available 24 hours a day to deal with any incidents.

You can report a dangerous structure to us using the form below. If you consider the danger to be imminent and there is a risk to health and safety please contact us via telephone.

Working closely with the police and fire authorities, our Surveyor will take whatever action is necessary to remove the imminent danger with temporary support. If it is considered that there is no imminent danger, the owner of the building or structure be will be served with a notice requiring remedial work being undertaken, usually within 21 days.

If the owner fails to comply with the notice within the time permitted, we may then apply to the Magistrates Court for an order enforcing the owner to undertake the work.

If you are having construction or refurbishment work done, you may need to notify the Health and Safety Executive and you may have other duties as well.
