Activity Referral

Physical Activity is proven to help improve mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Health and Leisure Services provide a variety of opportunities for those with health conditions to access specialised programmes.

These programmes aim to improve your health and wellbeing through the benefits of physical activity.

Each programme is delivered by a fully qualified and experienced instructor who will provide personalised support and knowledge to help you improve.

Exercise Referral Scheme

The Exercise Referral Scheme is run by Blaby District Council in partnership with East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group, Leicestershire County Council, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, GP Practices and other Health Care Professionals.

It offers people who are currently inactive, and who have a medical condition that could benefit from physical activity the opportunity to participate in physical activity sessions.

The scheme is 12-weeks and allows participants to:

  • Get a special rate
  • Take part in exercise across the district, including the Pavilion Leisure Centre, Enderby Leisure Centre and David Lloyd Meridian Leisure Centre
  • Exercise under the guidance of qualified exercise professionals

The 12-week programme offers clients ongoing encouragement and support to make the first steps in becoming more active on a regular basis.

If you are currently physically inactive and would like to be referred onto the scheme, please go to your GP surgery and ask them to make a referral to us on your behalf.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Cardiac Rehabilitation scheme runs alongside the Exercise Referral Scheme. It is a 16-week Phase Four Cardiac rehabilitation scheme run by Blaby District Council in partnership with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust hospitals and local GP surgeries.

Heart Smart is targeted at people who are either recovering from heart problems or heart surgery.

To enable individuals to achieve and maintain a health and lifestyle, the programme is there to promote and support individuals to engage in an exercise programme which will assist them in their daily lives.

There are two ways to be referred into the Heart Smart Scheme:

  • Hospital
  • GP
