Problems Paying

If you are struggling to pay your Council Tax, you must take action before things get worse. You may be able to get help if you are having difficulty.

Options to help stay out of debt:

  • Sign up to pay by direct debit - it's the easiest way to pay
  • Ask us to spread your bill over twelve months
  • See if you qualify for discounts and exemptions
  • Claim Council Tax Support if you are on a low income

If you don't pay your Council Tax, you'll end up paying much more. If we have to get a court summons to tell you to pay a charge of £55.50 for the costs of the Summons and a £19.50 Liability Order charge will be applied on top of the amount you already owe.

The summons will show the amount outstanding, the costs incurred and the date and whereabouts of the court hearing.

Further action could be taken if you fail to pay your Council Tax following a summons.
