Good causes we've helped

Association of Stokes School raising £1,170 a year

"With the proceeds from the Love Blaby Lottery we have purchased a number of BeeBots! These are educational items to help the children at Blaby Stokes Primary School learn computer coding in a fun and easy way. This will help the children to learn digital skills which will be incredibly useful in the modern world.

We think the lottery is a brilliant scheme and has really helped us with a relatively passive income stream when it’s hard to keep asking our school community for donations. It’s been invaluable whilst Covid restrictions have been in place. Thank you!"

Rebecca Bunting – Treasurer at Association of Stokes School

Countesthorpe Judo Club raising over £150 a year

"The proceeds from the Love Blaby Lottery have gone towards the hire of the village hall to enable us to run our sessions. We still have not recovered from the pandemic and our membership is so low that without the lottery we wouldn’t be able to continue."

Jim Oram – Club Coach at Countesthorpe Judo Club

Whetstone Good Neighbour Scheme raising £780 a year

Whetstone Good Neighbour Scheme was formed in 2016 by a group of volunteers who live in Whetstone. It aims to provide neighbourly assistance to those residents of Whetstone who are vulnerable or in need.

Lou Hathaway, Chair, says:

"The income from the Love Blaby Lottery has made us flexible in how we are able to help the vulnerable residents in Whetstone. Our biggest purchase this year has been a new wheelchair that's lightweight and easy to use. It enables us to get people to attend social events for those with limited mobility and has been a godsend. The lottery has also enabled us to ensure we are able to continue with the day to day running of the scheme without the financial worries.

We cannot thank you enough for the value it has brought to our scheme. Not only does it benefit the members of having a scheme, it gives people a chance to win and it helps with all the smaller costs that can arise along the way. We are so grateful".

Croft Happy Circle raising £1,170 a year

‘The lottery is making our life much easier, as we don't have to scrabble around so much for funds when we are receiving around £1,200 per year from the syndicate members' stakes. Our players are dedicated to the club and only too happy to pay their £1 per week to support it. Having now won over £71 each, they are getting back 71 weeks of their previous stakes. All in all a brilliant way of fund raising.'

Alan Wing, Group Treasurer

Blaby and Whetstone Youth Club raising £182 a year

'We have purchased equipment for the computer room at our Youth Club with proceeds from the lottery.  We have over 200 members and this will ensure we can continue to provide a safe space for them to hang out with friends and keep them off the streets. It's a fantastic scheme and we are privileged to be part of it.'

Alaina Gallacher - Blaby and Whetstone Youth Club

Leicester Musical Memory Box raising £182 a year

‘We have used the money raised through the lottery to contribute towards theatre trips to dementia-friendly performances. These have given our group members and their families the opportunity to go and do things they may not have done before or may feel are no longer possible. Looking at the joy on their faces and hearing them sing along is just priceless! Thank you so much for this opportunity - it is really helpful for us and we hope to attract some more supporters to join us in the near future.'

Christina Birkby - Leicester Musical Memory Box

Huncote Community Library raising £390 a year

‘We spent the lottery proceeds on children's books to improve our collection of Junior Fiction and to provide prizes for our annual Summer Reading Challenge – a challenge that encourages children to keep reading during the school summer break. This year we have been especially grateful for our Love Blaby Lottery funds as our electricity bills have soared unpredictably due to the current situation. The Community Library is extremely grateful to be a part of this excellent local project. It is also useful to have the resources that help to publicise the lottery and the extra prizes that are regularly added as extra incentives.'

Margaret Leach - Huncote Community Library
