Award categories

There are four categories to choose from.

Category A - Good Friend/Good Neighbour - Sponsored by Aggregate Industries  
For a person who goes out of their way to make everyday life better for a friend or neighbour(s) by helping out or providing selfless companionship.

Category B - Volunteer of the Year - Sponsored by Leicester Marriott Hotel
This award is for a person who has given up their time to help others. They have made a difference to their community, club or group or have dedicated themselves to improve the environment in the district.

Category C - Young Achiever of the Year - Sponsored by Ford and Slater
This award is for a young person who has achieved something special, whether academically, musically artistically, a sporting achievement, overcoming adversity or helping others. This award is open to anyone aged 21 or under.

Category D - Best Community Group/Community Achievement - Sponsored by Fosse Park
For a group that has improved the quality of life within the District of Blaby. The award honours the achievement within the group’s community and the difference they make to local residents.

The winner of each category will receive £500 prize money, and the runner up for each category will receive £250, kindly donated from the sponsors.

Awards Presentation Dinner

The entrants that the judges choose as finalists are invited to an exclusive dinner at the Marriott Hotel on Thursday 03 October 2019 along with members of their family and the person that nominated them.

This exclusive dinner is the perfect occasion to be able to celebrate and shine the spotlight on what these extraordinary people have achieved and contributed to the community.

Entry Criteria

  • Each award category has a description that explains the type of person or group that qualifies for that award
  • Employees of Blaby District Council and Council Members may not be nominated
  • Finalists from the previous five years may not be nominated
  • Nominations will not be considered if the nomination relates mainly to the individuals paid employment
  • Nominations should either live or work in the district or their actions should be of a direct benefit to the district
  • The closing date for nominations will be decided in the coming months. Entries after this date will not be considered

Selection of Finalists and Prizes

  • All finalists will be contacted by letter, and all unsuccessful nominations will receive a letter informing them
  • The decision reached by the judges when selecting the finalists is final and no correspondence will be entered into
  • Finalists or their representatives must attend the Presentation Dinner to receive their prize
  • Each finalist receives a certificate or glass plaque to acknowledge their achievement and the prize money donated by the sponsors is split between the winner and runner(s) up for each category

Important Note: The Council may use photos taken and nomination details of entrants in future publicity materials.
