New Lubbesthorpe bus service evolves

Section 106 Agreements

The innovative and dynamic on demand bus service for New Lubbesthorpe is set to expand under a new provider from August.

After being introduced in 2019, the Arriva Click on-demand service has become an integral part of resident’s lives, in New Lubbesthorpe and in neighbouring district villages. The app based on demand service remains one of a small number of schemes available in urban locations across the country.

When planning permission was granted by Blaby District Council for New Lubbesthorpe, it was a requirement that a public transport bus service was made available to residents. Go Travel Solutions, on behalf of the Drummond Estate for New Lubbesthorpe, worked to introduce this service to the District.

From Monday 01 August 2022 Vectare will become the new supplier of an extended bus service, which will include both the on-demand service and the introduction of a new regular shuttle service between New Lubbesthorpe and Leicester City Centre. This new service will see continuation and strengthening of the current service to make it even better for users.

Vectare’s on-demand service will continue the current operation that covers New Lubbesthorpe, Leicester Forest East, Enderby and Narborough with locations stretching from Narborough Railway Station to Leicester Train Station and the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The new, direct bus route between New Lubbesthorpe and Leicester City Centre that Vectare will also be offering is expected to run regularly throughout the week and will offer journey times of less than 30 minutes between the new community at New Lubbesthorpe and Leicester City Centre.

Councillor Ben Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Planning Delivery and Enforcement and Corporate Transformation, said: “This is fantastic news for residents in New Lubbesthorpe and the surrounding area. It is great to see Go Travel Solutions and the Drummond Estate working so hard to provide regular, long-term sustainable public transport giving residents a reliable service with choice.

“Arriva have shown since the launch of their ‘Click’ service that innovation in public transport is popular with the public. We’d like to thank them for providing this service for the last three years during the Covid pandemic. We’re now very excited to see the new Vectare service in operation from August and look forward to hearing feedback from residents.”

More details about the new services is now available from the Vectare website.
