Love Parks wins national award

Love Parks event in Fosse Meadows, which has won a national award

A popular annual family day to celebrate the district’s parks and open spaces has won a prestigious award from Keep Britain Tidy.

For more than a decade Love Parks Week has been one of Keep Britain Tidy’s campaigns to celebrate the UK’s best green spaces and the community groups bringing them to life. Blaby District Council’s Health and Leisure team mark this week with the Love Parks event.

Hosted at Fosse Meadows in Sharnford in the summer, the occasion attracts hundreds of families each year to enjoy a variety of inflatable activities, stalls and attractions as well as the opportunity to explore the Fosse Meadows Nature Area.

The successful event is now in its eleventh year and won the Love Parks Award at the Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference and Awards, at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham. The awards ceremony recognises local authorities who are making significant improvements to the environment on people’s doorstep.

One of the most naturally stunning open spaces in the area, Fosse Meadows features beautiful woodlands, bird hides, a wildlife lake and a children’s play area with a zip wire set in the historic area of Sharnford.

Further work for Love Parks has included partnership working with local charity Menphys, enabling the park to become fully accessible for disabled people, including the bird hide.

Councillor Sharon Coe, Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing and Regulatory Services, said: “We are delighted to have won this award. The Love Parks event is one of the best parts of the summer, especially seeing so many families enjoying the sun in an open space that we are incredibly proud of.

“A lot of hard work goes into organising the event and it’s especially rewarding to showcase Fosse Meadows to those living in and out of the district. We’re looking forward to this year’s event and have our fingers crossed for good weather!”

More information on this year’s Love Parks event will be available on the Blaby District Council website and social media. Information on the parks and open spaces in the district can be found on the Council's Parks Page.
