Car parks free during August

Car parks in Blaby and Narborough will remain free throughout August to continue support for local businesses.

Since the reopening of Blaby Town Centre for non-essential shops, Blaby District Council has supported businesses with social distancing measures, advisory signage and free parking in car parks. Signs asking people to wear face coverings have also been put up in the area.

When barriers were placed in the free on-street bays to make social distancing easier, the Council announced that car parks would be free. With the barriers remaining in place the commitment to free parking will continue during August.

Councillor Ben Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing Strategy and Economic Development, said: “Both Blaby District Council and Town Centre businesses have been encouraged by the number of people returning to shop locally.

“Our on-street barriers remain an important element of ensuring our visitors and businesses remain safe, and our free parking during August will also assist with this. All these measures are under constant review, with regular consultations with relevant parties.

“This really is a team effort; from Council officers to businesses and visitors, as we continue our efforts to see Blaby Town Centre thrive.

"It’s so important for everyone at Blaby District Council that we can do everything we can to assist in the economic recovery, while ensuring visitors and businesses are safe during the ongoing pandemic.”
