Leicester Forest East Neighbourhood Plan Referendum

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?

A neighbourhood plan is a planning document prepared by the local community for the local community. It gives local people the chance to plan for their own area by developing policies that will guide and shape development in the Plan area for the future. Once ‘made’, a Neighbourhood Plan is used to determine planning applications in the area alongside the District Council’s Local Plan.

What is the Leicester Forest East Neighbourhood Plan?

Preparation of the Leicester Forest East Neighbourhood Plan was led by an Advisory Committee, with support from Leicester Forest East Parish Council, local residents and Blaby District Council throughout the process.

The Plan seeks to protect areas of open space and local community facilities and sets out design principles for new development, amongst other things. It has undergone various stages of public consultation and an examination by an Independent Examiner. The Plan is now at the stage of proceeding to a public referendum, which is scheduled to take place on 30 June 2022 when residents of Leicester Forest East parish will be asked:

‘Do you want Blaby District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Leicester Forest East to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’

If the Plan is successful at Referendum, then it will then be ‘made’ (adopted) by Blaby District Council. This means it will become part of the development plan for this area, against which planning applications will be assessed.
