Community Volunteer Week

Community Volunteer Week is an opportunity for staff from the Council, local businesses and other partner organisations to give their time and make a positive difference in the community.

In 2018 Everards, Leicester Marriott Hotel, Everyone Active (Enderby Leisure Centre) and the Supporting Leicestershire Families Team from Leicestershire County Council all joined Blaby District Council to help local community projects.

147 individuals combined from Blaby District Council and these local businesses gave a total of nearly 550 hours to help 19 different organisations across the district.

The following organisations benefitted from the scheme:

  • Active Arts
  • Commbus Project
  • Community Harvest Whetstone
  • Countesthorpe Leysland Community College
  • Croft Happy Circle
  • Danemill Primary School
  • Foston Flower Festival at St Bartholomew's Church
  • Greenfield Primary School
  • Huncote Community Library
  • Kirby Muxloe Primary School
  • Narborough and District Bowling and Social Club
  • Narborough and Littlethorpe Community Library
  • Our Space (Lunch Club)
  • Sapcote Good Neighbour Scheme
  • St Mary's Church, Elmesthorpe
  • Support for Carers
  • Thistly Meadow Primary School
  • Thurlaston Primary School
  • Whetstone Good Neighbour Scheme

Huncote Community Library was one of the first projects to benefit this year. Staff went along to weed and clear the side of the path and improve access to the library. Treasurer Hilary Comyn said: "The four volunteers have done a marvellous job. They were enthusiastic even though it was hard work!

"This had needed doing for a long time and I’m not sure it would have been completed without the help of the volunteers."
