Community Awards 2021

We are pleased to announce that we will be running Community Awards this year, albeit in a different format to our usual Achievement Awards. As we emerge from a time that has been anything but ‘usual’ it is particularly fitting that we recognise and honour the contribution and achievements of individual volunteers and voluntary groups that have given so much of their time to help others across the district.

This year, as well as individual prizes, the winners and runners up in our Volunteer and Young Volunteer of the Year categories will also get to nominate a community group of their choice to receive a cash prize.

The deadline for nominations has now passed. We will post details of the winners and runners-up after our awards ceremony on Wednesday 6 October 2021.

Category A - Volunteer of the Year

This award is for a person who has given up their time to help others.  They have made a difference to their community, club or group or have dedicated themselves to improving the environment in the district.

Category B - Young Volunteer of the Year

This award is for a young person who has given up their time to help others. They have made a difference to their community, club or group or have dedicated themselves to improving the environment in the district.

Category C - Community Group of the Year

For a community group or organisation that has improved the quality of life for residents within the District of Blaby.  The award honours the achievement within the group’s community and the difference they make to local residents.

Entry criteria

  • Employees of Blaby District Council and Council Members may not be nominated
  • Nominations will not be considered if the nomination relates mainly to the individual’s paid employment
  • Nominations for categories A and B should either live, work or study in the district or their actions should be of direct benefit to the district
  • Nominations for category B should be 21 years of age or under
  • Nominations for category C must be a voluntary or community sector group or organisation based within Blaby District or one that directly benefits residents of the district, with a formal constitution or governing document

Selection of finalists

All finalists will be contacted by Thursday 23 September 2021. If you have not heard by this date unfortunately this means that you have not been shortlisted. The decision reached by the judging panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Finalists, or their representatives, will need to attend an awards ceremony during the evening of Wednesday 6 October 2021.

BHIB Charities Insurance is sponsoring the individual Volunteer of the Year prizes and Central England Co-operative is sponsoring the individual Young Volunteer of the Year prizes. All group prizes are being funded by proceeds from the Love Blaby Lottery's Blaby District Community Fund so a big thank you also to our lottery supporters.
