Intermediary Support available at Blaby District Council

The Business Hub which is part of the Community and Economic Development and Work and Skills Team at Blaby District Council has been set up as an intermediary for the new Government Kickstart scheme that was launched last month.  This provides us with an exciting opportunity to help young people and our local small and medium-sized businesses across the District.

The Kickstart Scheme is a Government initiative that provides funding to employers to create new 6-month job placements for young people aged 16 to 24 years who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

How the scheme will work:

  • Employers from all industries and across the private, public and voluntary sectors can get involved.
  • Applications must be for a minimum of 30 job placements.
  • Blaby District Council has registered as an intermediary organisation to support local businesses, especially SME’s who may have 1 or a small number of placements, as the minimum requirement for an application is 30 job placements.
  • The Government will fund 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week and any associated National Insurance contributions.
  • There is £1500 funding for each placement to support with set-up costs, support and training.

The job placements created with Kickstart funding must be new jobs, they must not:

  • replace existing or planned vacancies
  • cause existing employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment
  • require people to undertake extensive training before they begin the job placement

Young People on placements will be given the opportunity to develop their skills and experience with:

  • Support to look for long-term work
  • Support with CV and interview preparation
  • Training to develop their skills, such as teamwork, organisation and communications as part of the role

If you would like a word version of the Kickstart application form then please contact Enterprisingblaby@blaby.gov.uk

Once we have heard that the application is successful:

  • Your job descriptions will be given to the DWP work coaches at Jobcentre Plus
  • The work coaches will match suitable candidates for the job placements
  • DWP will send you the candidate details
  • You’ll then be able to interview the candidates matched to your job placements
  • You’ll select the candidate best suited to the role

If you have any further questions or queries then please email them through to Enterprisingblaby@blaby.gov.uk
