Council Tax is payable on domestic dwellings and is charged by the local authority to pay for the services it provides. The Council tax rates are published each year together with information on how rates are assessed, eligibility, and how to pay, etc.
Your property is in a Council Tax band, which determines how much tax you pay. There are eight bands; Band A – H. The Valuation Office decides which band your property is in, and this is based on its market value on 1st April 1991. Download the full table of charges by following the link below.

The amount paid is dependant on which valuation band the property falls into and which parish. Each property is allocated a band dependent on its value as at 1st April 1991, or what its value would have been at that time.

The valuation band for your property is shown on your bill. If you have recently moved into the property, or purchased the property and you disagree with the banding you have six months from the date of occupation or purchase to appeal.
