Support for Community Groups
In addition to the help available through Blaby District Council, there is lots of other support for local voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations.
Voluntary Action Leicestershire (VAL)
VAL offers a range of services dedicated to supporting all of our VCS. For example:
Advice on setting up or growing your VCS group or organisation
Recruitment, retention and management of volunteers
Opportunities to consult with key partners and commissioners
Groups or organisations that secure different types of funding – rather than being reliant on grants alone - are likely to be more sustainable. There are lots of different ways to generate income and it may be easier than you think to try something new. VAL can also provide advice on these, such as:
Getting donations from the public or local businesses
Trading for community benefit
Being commissioned to provide a service
To find out more contact VAL on 0116 257 5050 or visit VAL's website
Leicestershire Cares is a charity which brings together businesses and the community for the benefit of both. It runs two programmes that may benefit your organisation or group: Team Challenges and ProHelp.
Team Challenges are set up for employee volunteers to complete one-day projects for VCS groups. For example, painting or decorating a tired or well-used venue, or developing an outdoor garden area or allotment.
Leicestershire and Rutland ProHelp is a group of professional firms who are committed to making a difference in the community by offering their services for free to community organisations in need of support. For example, you can get help from: solicitors, human resource or marketing specialists, accountants, surveyors and more.
To find out more contact the Community Development Team at Leicestershire Cares on 0116 275 6469 or email either firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Alternatively visit the Leicestershire Cares website.
