  • Flowers and plants
  • Weeds
  • Small prunings
  • Hedge clippings
  • Leaves and bark

No thanks

  • Large branches
  • Soil
  • Slabs or other rubble
  • Plastics
  • Kitchen waste eg fruit and vegetable peelings

Collections

Garden waste collections are made fortnightly during summer (March to November) and monthly from December to February.

We will make arrangements to collect and return bins for residents who are elderly or have a disability in the same way that we do for the other waste services.

We now have over 20,000 garden waste bins in the district and last year we diverted above 5800 tonnes of garden waste from landfill.

You can take part in our garden waste collection by either renting a garden bin or buying special degradable Blaby District Council garden waste bags.

Garden bins

There are two different sized garden bins available.  You can rent  as many as you want, at a cost of (price per bin):

  • a 140ltr bin for £24.00 per year, or
  • a 240ltr bin for £36.00 per year

From 1st April 2015 the Council will charge for replacement bins if they have been damaged on purpose or if they have been stolen or are reported as missing.

The charges are for the replacement of the old bin and for delivery. The charge is not for the new bin and the new bin will continue to be the property of the Council.

Charges are:

140ltr bin - £20.00
240ltr bin - £30.00
360ltr bin - £40.00

We will not charge for wear and tear damage to bins, eg broken lids, missing lid pins, splits to the body of the bin or damaged wheels.

Before you report your bin as stolen or missing please check your neighbours' gardens to see if it has been taken and check around the area to make sure the bin isn't further down the road/been misplaced.

Order a Garden Waste Bin

The bins are your responsibility, it is up to you to keep your bins safe and to retrieve your bins from your neighbours. We do not replace dirty bins, it is your responsibility to keep your bins clean.

Make a payment

If you have received an invoice and need to make a payment, you can make a payment online using the invoice number on your bill.

Degradable garden bags

The special bags are available from local shops and post offices. The bags should only be put out for collection on the special garden waste collection days.

  • Degradable bags - £5.20 for 3 bags
