Lightbulb marks successful first six months

Lightbulb award 2018 LGC

Over 2,300 from across Leicestershire have been helped to remain independent in their own home thanks to the work of the award winning Lightbulb Project.

The first six months of the partnership, hosted by Blaby District Council, has seen the project recognised with three awards due to its work in supporting vulnerable people. Leicestershire County Council, district councils, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG's) and Leicestershire Partnership Trust make up the scheme’s other partners.

Equipment in the homes of service users enables them to stay out of hospital by preventing accidents and falls. A reduction of just one fall for every 17 residents saves the local health and care economy £21,000 per year.

One service user who had a bath lift installed, said: “Thank you, a bath lift may seem such a simple thing, but it has made such a difference to my life!”

Another service user said: “Thank you for the adaptations that you fitted at my 93 year old mother’s home, she has mobility issues and is a blue badge holder.

“They have been a god send. It was really great to have all this sorted by one team and the Housing Support Coordinator who visited my mother sorted everything out.”

Teresa Neal, Lightbulb Service Manager, said: “We are so proud of the huge amount of work we have undertaken in the first six months of Lightbulb. From providing a perching stool to installing a stair lift, our team will do all they can to keep Leicestershire residents independent in their home.

“Lightbulb has been recognised multiple times for the great partnership to get to this point. We hope this can be an inspiration for other authorities to follow our way of working to help residents in their local area.”

Lightbulb’s other benefits have included a much reduced waiting time for housing adaptations, fewer people involved in each case and a vast reduction in delivery cost.
