Council recognised with award from RSPCA

Dog chipping offences

Blaby District Council has been recognised for its good animal practice and animal welfare with a Bronze Stray Dog Footprint Award from the RSPCA.

The award, open to all local authorities in England and Wales, recognises organisations that have gone above and beyond basic requirements, ensuring higher animal welfare standards. It also highlights authorities that demonstrate the importance of information and education.

Over the last year, the Council hosted a free collar and tag and microchipping event, the annual Dogs of Blaby competition has been at the forefront of informing residents aware about new and existing rules about dog ownership and dog breeding.

A newly launched Bite Back campaign is also underway, giving residents and local organisations to promote responsible dog ownership in their area.

Cllr Iain Hewson, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Regulatory services, said: "We are absolutely delighted that the Animal Services team have been recognised by the RSPCA.

“It is our duty to ensure all stray dogs are treated with the highest welfare standards possible. We also know the value our residents place on being kept up to date with the latest laws and information about dogs, and we are committed to continuing this great work.”
