Thousands of pounds of vital funding has been awarded to 61 local community groups through Blaby District Council’s Community Grants scheme.
In total, £71,723 was granted to local groups in 2016-17. The money goes towards projects both large and small, from coach trips to building extensions and new equipment.
Nearly £20,000 was given away in the latest round of grants to 19 groups across the district, including Narborough and Littlethorpe Community Library, New Leicester Youth Chorus and Enderby Tennis Club.
Sarah Pennelli, Director of People and Finance at Blaby District Council, said “Community Grants is a scheme we are incredibly proud of. We are pleased to give our local community groups the support to continue the great work they do in our local community.
“These groups are the lifeblood of our district, helping us achieve our vision for the District of thriving and vibrant communities where people are happy to live, work and visit. We have awarded over £475,000 to over 300 organisations since 2010, and hopefully many other groups will take advantage of the funding available for the next year.”
