Current consultations

Throughout the year Blaby District Council also seeks the views of residents, business owners, visitors and stakeholders on a range of topics. These consultations can be found below, followed by results and findings from selected consultations.

Blaby Local Plan Delivery Development Plan Document: Main Modifications Consultation

Following the Examination hearings, the Council is consulting on Main Modifications to the Delivery DPD. The Delivery DPD is the second part of its Local Plan, following on from the Core Strategy in 2013.  It includes sites for new housing and employment land as well as a number of policies to guide decisions on planning applications.

The Council is seeking views of residents on the proposed Main Modifications before the Inspector makes recommendations on whether or not the Delivery DPD is sound. The consultation runs for 6 weeks from 14 September until 26 October 2018.

To respond to this consultation please visit Blaby Local Plan Delivery DPD Examination page

Consultation on proposed changes to Council Tax Liability and Council Tax Support

A consultation has been launched on proposals to change Council Tax liability charges and Council Tax Support.

Due to a significant reduction in in central government funding, we no longer receive money based on the Council Tax support provided to households.  This money must now be found by Blaby District Council through its central budget.

Our proposals include

  • A 200% Council Tax Charge on properties that have been empty for more than two years.
  • Removing the 10% Council Tax discount for second homes.
  • Removing the 50% Council Tax discount for properties undergoing major repair or structural works.
  • No longer offering a one-month free period of Council Tax to unoccupied properties.
  • Reducing the maximum Council Tax support from Blaby District Council to either 83%, 80%, 78% or keeping this the same.

There will be no change to the amount of help for people of pension age credit, the 25% single person discount or the exemption for those who are severely mentally impaired and living alone.

The consultation ends on Sunday 30 September 2018.

Please read the consultation booklet, which has important  information and outlines the proposals before you fill out the online form to have your say.
