Sex Establishment Licence

Any sex shop, sex cinema or sexual entertainment venue (which falls outside of the permitted exemptions) will require a sex establishment licence.

Section 2 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 enables us to adopt, by resolution, the provisions of Schedule 3 of the Act which covers the licensing of sex shops. We have adopted this Schedule.

Section 27 of the Policing and Crime Act 2009 (the 2009 Act) reclassified lap dancing clubs and similar venues as sexual entertainment venues, giving us the power to regulate these venues as sex establishments under the 1982 Act.
