Food Scores

Overview of the scheme

This scheme has been designed to allow members of the public to have access to the scores awarded to food premises across Blaby District Council’s area by Environmental Health Officers. The scheme has been based on the Food Standards agencies Code of Practice for Enforcement Officers, and it is hoped that by having access to this information it will allow members of the public to make an informed choice about the premises they eat at.

The scheme is a 3 star system:

Star Rating Symbol Performance Level
3 Star 3 Star Rating a good premises
2 Star 2 Star Rating a satisfactory premises
1 Star 1 Star Rating a poor premises
0 Star 0 Star Rating a failing premises

Viewing the star ratings

The system can be accessed by the following link which will redirect the user to the national database of information about food premises.

This site is also being used by other local authorities in Leicestershire to publicise their food premises scores including: Charnwood Borough Council, Melton Borough Council, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, Harborough District Council, Oadby & Wigston Borough Council and North West Leicestershire District Council.

Certification

The scheme will also award each food premises a certificate so that their rating can be clearly displayed. However, there may be a small delay in all businesses receiving their certificates, but we anticipate this should be completed by September 2007.

Premises covered by the scheme

The Scheme will include a range of premises such as pubs, cafes, and restaurants etc, which are classed as catering premises. However, the scheme will also include schools, nurseries and care homes, and at a later date more types of premises may be included. The Scheme has now been extended to food retailers, i.e. Supermarkets and corner shops. The scheme will start with inspections undertaken from 1st April 2007 and will be rolled out as we inspect all of our premises over the next two years. So, if a premises does not appear on the website, it simply means that they haven’t yet been inspected under the new scheme to give them a rating.
