Contaminated Land

Contaminated land comes from industrial processes, waste disposal and accidental spillage of harmful substances. It can pose a threat to human health and the environment if not dealt with responsibly.

As a regulator, landowner and planning authority, we are responsible for ensuring that:

  • The land is suitable for its current use
  • The land is made suitable for any new use, as official permission is given for that new use
  • Ensuring that any contaminated land is suitable to be used for its original purpose or any future use

The Council supplies information, assesses the quality of site investigations and monitors how approved schemes are carried out during development.

Contaminated Land Register

Local authorities must maintain a register of all regulatory action they have undertaken concerning the remediation of contaminated land. To date, Blaby District Council has made no entry on this register.

Any new information will be added to the register when necessary.

The Contaminated Land Strategy can be viewed on request.
