Conservation areas

Summary

Conservation areasLocal Planning Authorities have a statutory duty under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 to review which parts of their area are of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance, and to designate such areas as Conservation Areas. These are usually based on groups of buildings but may also include historic street patterns, open spaces or features of historic or archaeological interest.

Further information

At present there are nine Conservation Areas in the District (please click on the links in the Downloads section to view a small map of each area). In order to ensure that areas of local architectural or historic interest are protected, the District Council will continue to review whether further areas are of special interest and will designate them Conservation Areas, or revise the boundaries of those existing, as appropriate. Initially, consideration is being given to the possible designation of parts of the following villages:

  • Croft
  • Glenfield
  • Huncote
  • Kilby
  • Littlethorpe
