Allocations Policy For Elderly Accommodation
Summary
Accommodation in sheltered housing is unfurnished properties specially designed or adapted for elderly people. Current
council tenants may be eligible for sheltered housing according to age and needs. The council carry out an assessment of applicants
and maintain a waiting list until suitable properties become available.

If you (or one of you in the case of joint applicants) are 60 years old and over, you can be considered for a property
designated as suitable for older people. There are two types of accommodation available and these are;
Category I – Flats and bungalows with a lifeline providing 24 hour emergency cover. You will also benefit from a call
from a Housing Support Officer.
Category II – Sheltered Schemes. These consist of self contained flats and also benefit from a lifeline providing 24 hour
emergency cover. In a Category II Sheltered Scheme you would also receive a daily visit form a Housing Support Officer.
