Council Adaptations
The Council provides adaptations to Council properties to suit the needs of disabled people or people with mobility
problems. These can include providing a rail, lever taps, ramp, shower or stairlift. If the adaptations are non-essential
a tenant has the right to carry out improvements with permission from the local authority housing department.
Minor Adaptations are undertaken by the Council’s Housing Repairs team They allow council tenant to remain mobile in
their own home and are referred from the Social Services Department. These types of adaptations relate to items such as ramps,
handrails and speak-a-locks and are generally £600 or less.
Major Adaptations are undertaken by the Private Sector Housing team and cover the cost of works over £600. Further details
can be found in the booklet titled.
