Alterations and Adapting Homes
Alterations
Tenants can undertake adaptations to their own council properties with permission from the Landlord. Types of improvements
in this category are - new kitchen or bathroom, central heating. An application form can be found on the link below:
Adaptations
Adaptations are carried out by the Council for Council tenants who are having difficulty getting into and around their
homes, using facilities in the kitchen/bathroom and reaching switches etc.
The way this is done and who you need to contact varies depending on whether you are looking for minor adaptations such
as handrails or major adaptations such as replacing a bath with a shower.
Whatever you feel you need the Council has to have a recommendation from the Leicestershire County Council Social Services
Occupational Therapist before it can consider the works.
For more information please follow the link on the left hand side called Council Adaptations.
If you would like to arrange an assessment please contact the relevant Social Services Office from the following Leicestershire
County Council page:
Adaptations for children are handled by the Coalville Office. Adult assessments are carried out by the Hinckley and South
Wigston offices. If you live in one of the southern parishes of Blaby you would need to contact the Hinckley Office.
If your assessment shows that you need alterations carried out to your home , Social services will send a report to the
Council indicating what your difficulties are/what works are needed. The offices that deal with these works are:
Housing Maintenance (For a minor adaptation- under £600) tel:- 0116 272 7788
Private Sector Housing (For a major adaptation –over £600) tel:- 0116 272 7536
