Housing Strategy
The Housing Strategy is one of the many reports and plans that the District Council is required to produce for assessment
and scrutiny by central government. If it is passed as `fit for purpose’ by the government it will improve the council’s prospects
of future funding from the new Regional Housing Boards.
The Housing Strategy is designed to enable the Council to show its understanding of the housing needs and housing problems
of the district. It also requires an assessment of available resources and recognition of the key partners the Council must
work with to address housing need effectively.
The priorities listed below have been identified as the starting point for developing actions to address housing issues
and improve housing services in Blaby
- Base housing provision and services on sound and comprehensive information
- Meet housing need in the district and specifically increase the supply of affordable housing for residents where appropriate
- Deliver decent homes across all housing tenures and specifically ensure the Council’s stock achieves the Decent Homes
Standard
- Promote access and choice within Housing Services
- Ensure that tenants and other stakeholders are consulted and informed and able to participate in the decisions that affect
their housing and their communities
- Address the housing and support needs of community care and other vulnerable groups
- To promote sustainable and cohesive housing communities
