Housing Benefit

Housing benefit is a means of assisting tenants of rented accomodation to meet their rent payments. Housing Benefit is awarded in the form of either rent rebate (for Council tenants) or rent allowance (for housing association or private sector tenants). Benefit granted is based on:

• the level of the claimants weekly income,
• for rent allowance customers, the market rent level,
• and for Local Housing Allowance customers, Local Housing Allowance rates.
