Garden Waste & Composting
The Council can collect garden waste through the 'Great Green Take-away' Scheme, for composting.
There are two ways that garden waste can be collected, you can either rent a garden wheeled bin or buy the special
degradable Blaby District Council garden waste bags.
There are 2 different sizes of garden bin available, you can rent either a 240 litre garden bin for £19.20 per year, or
a 140 litre garden bin for £12.00 per year. The special bags are available from local shops and Post Offices at a cost of
£1.50 for three bags. The bags should only be put out for collection on the special garden waste collection days.
Garden waste is collected fortnightly (March to November) and monthly during the remainder of the year. The material is
taken to local farms and composted. The compost is spread on fields to condition and improve the soil organically.
Please note that Garden waste can not be put into the normal household black lidded waste bin
Home Composting
If you wish to compost garden waste yourself, the Council sells home compost bins at a vastly reduced price of £15.00 (The
recommended retail price is £40).
Once payment has been received, you can either collect your bin from a local garden centre or we can deliver the compost
bin to your property free of charge. Two sizes of bin are available. For further information please contact waste hotline

Alternatively, Garden Waste can be taken to your local Household Waste and Recycling Site where Leicestershire County Council
make arrangements for it to be composted.
