Rubbish, Waste & Recycling

picture of waste bins

Blaby District Council provides an integrated refuse and recycling service. Residents are provided with two wheeled bins, one for refuse with a black lid, and the other for recycling paper and card with a green lid.

In addition there are two smaller containers for recycling. The Duetto box is used for recycling glass, and the yellow lidded box is for recycling tin cans and plastic bottles.

Blaby District Council also operates a chargeable collection service for garden waste - please see below for details.

The standard bins are both 140L and are of a slim line design to minimise the space required to store them. Bigger bins are available upon request, but larger refuse bins usually require a small extra payment. For households who only need extra capacity occasionally, 'Blaby District Council Extra waste sacks' can be purchased from local outlets.

The refuse bin is emptied on a weekly basis. The bin should be put out at the boundary of your property, next to the pavement or road, by 7.30am on collection day.

The recycling containers are optional and are emptied every fortnight.

Garden waste can be collected in either special garden waste wheeled bins, or 'Blaby District Council garden waste sacks' available from local outlets.

Occasionally there are disruptions to our standard refuse collection times and days due to the weather. Unfortunately climate changes are here now and extremes of weather look set to cause increasing problems for services. We have therefore produced a document outlining the varying weather problems that may arise and possible tips or solutions to combat them.
