Recycling - bags and containersBlaby District Council provides an integrated refuse and recycling service. Each household is issued with either bins and boxes or sacks.

What can I put in my recycling containers?

Plastic and Can box

Yes please

  • Plastic bottles – milk, mineral water, drinks bottles, shampoo, detergent, bleach, fabric conditioners etc
  • Tins and cans – aluminium drink cans and steel food tins(please rinse)
  • Foil – tin foil, foil trays, foil pie trays, takeaway trays
  • Empty aerosol cans – hairspray, deodorants etc
  • Food trays, fruit punnets (including lids), packaging film, margarine and ice cream tubs
  • Small plant pots and seed trays (no soil)
  • Yoghurt pots, tetra pak (milk and juice cartons)
  • Foam fast food boxes
  • Plastic cutlery

Further information

Each household is issued with the following standard recycling containers:

  • 140ltr wheeled bin (green lid) for paper and card
  • 55ltr green box for plastic bottles, tins, cans and clean foil
  • 44ltr green box for glass bottles and jars

We will also collect any used household batteries (not industrial, car or motorbike). Please put your used batteries out in a special battery bag or small sandwich bag with your recycling boxes.

Recycling

The following larger paper and card bins are available:

  • 240ltr wheeled bin
  • 360ltr wheeled bin

Additional boxes are also available for plastic bottles, cans, tins and clean foil; and for glass bottles and jars.

Please note – larger or additional recycling boxes/bins are free of charge.

For those properties unable to accommodate wheeled bins, we do provide refuse and recycling sacks free of charge. These are delivered by us on a quarterly basis.

Garden Waste

There are two different sized garden bins available. You can rent at a cost (from 1st April 2011 to 31st March 2012):

  • a 140ltr bin for £14.40 per year, or
  • a 240ltr bin for £20.40 per year

In addition to the bins, garden waste sacks are available from many outlets in the district.
