Pollution control - smoke control orders
Summary
The Clean Air Act 1993 prohibits smoke from being emitted from a property in a Smoke Control Area. Smokeless fuel
or certain other fuels on "exempt appliances" will allow compliance. Smoke from bonfires is not controlled by this system,
but could be a statutory nuisance.
How to report a nuisance
Most people should become aware of whether they are in a Smoke Control Area when they buy a property. A list of affected parishes is given below. Confirmation can be sought from the Environmental Protection Team. If you notice smoke being emitted from a chimney in one of the parishes, please report it to the Environmental Protection Team. We can investigate and take enforcement action.
- To report a problem you can contact the Council by:
- telephone; or
completing the on-line form below;
- An officer will contact you to discuss the issue before investigating further;
- Appropriate enforcement action will be taken and you will be informed of the outcome.

- Blaby,
- Braunstone Town,
- Enderby,
- Glenfield,
- Glen Parva,
- Kirby Muxloe,
- Leicester Forest East,
- Leicester Forest West,
- Lubbesthorpe, Narborough,
- Whetstone.
