Further information
Blaby District Council is producing a document which is called the Local Development Framework Core Strategy which will
shape the way the District grows and changes up to 2026. The Council is considering ‘Alternative Options’ for the location
of major new development within the District, including new housing and employment sites to meet requirements recently identified
in a Draft Regional Plan issued by the Government.
The views of residents and businesses are being sought between November 6th and December 18th concerning where best to
locate the 8,650 houses and a large employment site required within the District up to 2026. The Council is seeking the views
of the community, businesses and interested parties to establish the best location for a ‘Sustainable Urban Extension’, a
strategic employment site (of some 25 hectares) and also which villages within the District are most able to accommodate more
houses and other development.
The document also considers issues such as how to address renewable energy and climate change, the future of Green Wedges
and the future role of Fosse Park.
At this stage, none of the options represents the policy of the Council, however, the Alternative Options consultation
will help to inform a subsequent version of the Core Strategy which will be submitted to the Government for consideration
in the summer of 2009.
Your views are being sought on alternative options relating to a number of important planning Issues between 6th November
and 18th December 2008.
The Council will take account of representations received at this, and previous, stages of consultation when developing
subsequent drafts. The next formal stage of consultation (submission version) will take place in the summer of 2009 for a
period of 6 weeks. At this time, the document will be the subject of further public participation.
The Core Strategy (Alternative Options) paper is available for viewing above. An electronic response form is available
for you to complete online and e-mail to the Council.
Whilst paper copies will be accepted, Blaby District Council strongly advise that respondents use the electronic response
form in the interests of saving paper and ease of recording representations. An electronic receipt will be sent with all responses.
Representations should be received no later than 5pm on 18th December 2008.
