Planning Policy
The Planning Policy Section has responsibility for the planning policy functions of the Council. The Blaby
District Local Plan (BDLP) was adopted in September 1999 and sets out the current planning policies and proposals for
land-use in Blaby District up to September 2007. Some policies may be ‘saved’ beyond this date, see the Local Development
Framework page for more information.
In accordance with the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the Local Plan is scheduled to be replaced by a Local
Development Framework (LDF) over time. The Council has started to produce the LDF for the District of Blaby. The LDF will
set out a spatial planning blueprint for the area and will look at such issues as where new houses, shops, leisure facilities
and employment areas will go and how they should be developed up to 2026.
The Planning Policy Section also has responsibility for preparing the Council's response to consultations on planning policy
documents such as Government Planning Guidance: Planning Policy Statements (PPSs and Circulars), the Regional Spatial Strategy
for the East Midlands and Local Transport Plans. The Section also monitors the development of employment and residential land
in the District and produces an availability report for both, see the land
monitoring page for more information.
Certain statistical information, including data from the Census of Population (2001) is also available on request. Further
statistical information, including Census data, can be obtained from the Office for National Statistics website at www.statistics.gov.uk
The section is also responsible for Economic Development supporting the development of the District's economy and its capacity
to generate future growth in output, investment, skills and employment opportunities for local people.
