Further information
The bed bug has a reddish brown, oval, wingless body. They tend to live near their host/food source, so will often be found in mattress seams, bedding, under loose wall paper near a bed and inside furniture near a bed. When a bed bug bites they inject saliva into their host which causes a large white swelling to appear which may be very itchy. They leave an almond-like smell behind and often leave faecal spots on bed sheets.
To prevent a problem from arising it is essential that your house is well maintained. Cracks and crevices should be repaired and peeling wall paper fixed. Bed sheets should be washed often.
