Cabinet Executive

The Cabinet Executive consists of a Leader - who is appointed by Full Council - together with six other Executive Members.

The members of the Cabinet Executive are collectively responsible for providing political leadership for the authority and for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of all of the Council's services within the policies and budgets which have been agreed by Full Council.

Each Executive Member works with Council Officers to make sure that services within their portfolio are operating to a high standard and are contributing to meeting the Council's aims and objectives. Cabinet Members do not, at present, have individual decision making powers.

Whilst Cabinet Members have overall responsibility for their portfolio, to enable swift decision-making the majority of day-to-day decisions about how services are run are delegated to Officers of the Council. However, for some decisions, the approval of the Cabinet Executive is required. Some decisions can only be made by the full Council and these are detailed in the Constitution.

A list of the major issues which the Cabinet Executive will be considering in coming months can be found in the Forward Plan.
