Your Council Tax Bill
Receiving your bill
You will normally receive your annual Council Tax bill in March. It will state the amount payable and show how the bill
has been calculated. Instalment details and your usual method of payment will also be included.
Paying by Direct Debit
The Council's preferred method of payment for Council Tax is direct debit as it is the quickest, easiest way to collect
and pay the charge. All direct debits are collected on the 1st of each month.
Please complete this form and return to Blaby District Council. You should continue to make payments as normal until you
are notified that your Direct Debit has been set up.
What happens if I think my bill is wrong?
If, when you receive your bill you think the amount is wrong in any way you should contact the Revenues Section immediately.
Unless you have made other arrangements with the Revenues Section you should continue to pay in accordance with the disputed
bill until the matter is resolved.
What happens if the amount I need to pay changes during the year?
If the amount of your bill changes during the year, (perhaps because of a house move or a discount is no longer applicable),
you will receive a new bill to replace the original. As with your annual bill, it will include the amount payable along with
how this amount was calculated and the new instalment details.
What do I do if I have trouble paying my bill?
As soon as you realise you are going to have a problem paying your bill you should contact the Revenues Section. We will
be able to advise you if you may be entitled to any discounts or benefit. If no reduction can be made it may be possible
to agree a payment schedule to clear the bill. Do not ignore the bill completely, if you do not pay and do not contact us
recovery action will commence.
What will happen if I don't pay?
If you miss a payment or if it is late you will receive a reminder notice asking you to bring your account up to date within
the next seven days. If you do not bring your account up to date or miss a further payment you will receive a cancellation
notice, asking you to pay the full amount within the next seven days. If payment is still not received recovery action will
continue which may entail the issue of a Court summons (inclusive of costs).
