Council Performance
Summary
Performance is measured by all effective organisations in order to asses how well they are doing and to help them to do
things better in the future.
The Council's performance is important not just to themselves and the Government but above all to their residents as user
of their services. The performance of Blaby District Council is measured in a variety of ways, but in particular by use of
performance indicators, by audit and inspections, by user surveys, and by monitoring delivery of its plans and programmes.

Further Information
The Council is working towards developing a performance culture throughout the organisation. This builds on the duty of
Best Value which requires councils to secure continuous improvement in delivering high quality local services.
Full details of the Council's most recent performance and its plans and targets for improvement are provided in the Council's
Annual Report and Performance Plan 2008/09 published in June 2008. In this we tell you about what we do,
how well we do it and our plans for the future whilst also meeting our legal requirement to publish annual information about
our performance. This document is an important way for us to keep in touch with our residents, business community and partner
organisations.
Based on the most recent performance indicators, the Council's performance is above average compared to all other English
councils and continues to improve.
The Council’s performance has also been more broadly assessed by Audit Commission inspectors in its Comprehensive
Performance Assesment (CPA) carried out in May 2004. This is an independent body responsible for ensuring public money
is spent economically, efficiently and effectively. The Council scored 41 points out of a possible 60, the highest score in
the CPA "Fair" category.
